SSF U7 / U9

SSF - Small Sided Football (formerly Small Side Games) has been introduced byFootball Federation of Victoria as a means to introduce young children to football in a fun, relaxed manner with the focus on smaller numbers participating in a fun game environment. The thinking behind SSF is that fewer numbers means each child participating should spend more time "on the ball" developing their skills.

Knox United Soccer Club can confirm that we will again be running our Small Sided Football introductory program for children aged 5-7 years old.  The program will again be held at the Rowville Community Centre Outdoor Courts every Monday (6:30-7:30pm) starting 19th April.  For more information, please contact us via email at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. For players aged 8 or 9 years in 2010, you are eligible to join our SSF Under 9 teams that train once a week and play 7 v 7 matches on Sunday mornings.  For more information, please contact us via email at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Changes to SSF in 2010

E-mail Print PDF

The governing body of soccer in Victoria, Football Federation Victoria, has only recently changed the structure of Small Sided Football from Under 7's to Under 11's in 2010.

This has been in response to feedback from clubs following the 2009 season.

The main changes, noted in the guidelines are:

  • Under 7’s operating in a 4-a-side intra club/club hub format
  • the Under 9’s playing a 7 vs 7 fixtured league with no points or tables
  • the Under 11’s will play a 9 vs 9 fixtured league with points and ladders.
  • Please note that results from the Under 11’s competition will have no bearing on the Under 12’s for the following year.

A document which explains the changes are available from this link - http://www.smallsidedfootball.com.au/pdfs/2010_OSSF_Formats_2.9.09.pdf <http://www.smallsidedfootball.com.au/pdfs/2010_OSSF_Formats_2.9.09.pdf>

This means that this years program schedule, fees & training nights will need to be reviewed to reflect these changes.

One of the most important things to understand about these changes is that all of these programs will require greater participation from parents and volunteers in order to help your children enjoy the experience of playing soccer. I can speak from experience that you too will definitely benefit from being an active participant, whether as a game leader, co-ordinator or administrator so please put your hand up to help.
